Our last day in Australia and the journey home

Posted at December 27, 2007 by Rachel Taylor

After leaviing Tasmania, we arrived back in Sydney and checked into our hotel at the airport and went straight to sleep. On Sunday, we woke up early and headed to the city. First stop was the hostel to pick up the 2 suitcases that we left there before we went travelling. We then went back to the hotel to freshen up before heading back to the city for our final evening. We booked a table up the Sydney Tower so we could watch Sydney go by for the last time whilst we ate our meal. After our meal, we headed back to the hotel to finish the last of our packing before having an early night ready for the hectic few days that would follow. We woke up at 6 on the 24th and caught the shuttle bus to the airport to catch our first flight. After a brief plane change and duty free shopping in Auckland, we boarded the plane to San Francisco. We then got to re live the 24th all over again and waited for 7 hours before boarding our plane home. We arrived at Heathrow at 1pm and after picking up our bags and the hire car we were on our way up the motorway. Michael rang his mum to say surprise and then it was off to my house to surprise my family and surprised they were.

So that concludes our backpacking adventure around Australia. We had an unforgettable time and have made friends and memories that will last a lifetime. We saw all that we wanted to see and are both glad to be home. Even though it is cold and raining, ‘there is no place like home’

A day in Launceston

Posted at by Rachel Taylor

Today, we had a few hours to waste before our flight so we decided to take a walk to the Cataract Gorge and along one of the walks back to the city. We took some photos from a lookout and then headed back to the city. We had a browse around the shops and watched a thunder storm. We then headed back to the hotel to wait for our shuttle to the airprt before flying back to Sydney. Our time in Tasmania has been really nice and reminded us very much of England and the climate has been just right.

Day 9 of our 9 Day Tasmania Tour!

Posted at December 21, 2007 by Rachel Taylor

On the last day of our tour, we left Bicheno and continued our journey north along the coast. We went to see a Blowhole and then headed to St Helens. When we got to St Helens, we went to the Bay of Fires and took some photos and some people went for a swim. From here we went to the rainforest and veiwed the St Columba Falls which are the second highest falls in Tasmania at 90 metres. We took some photos from the lookout and then we headed back to the bus for some tea and biscuits. After leaving the falls, we stopped at a pub and gave some pigs a beer. We also stopped at a cheese factory for a tasting. From here we headed east and after stopping at a lookout to view the midlands, we arrived back in Launceston to conclude our trip.

Day 8 of our 9 Day Tasmania Tour!

Posted at December 20, 2007 by Rachel Taylor

Today, we headed north along the East coast. We had a quick stop in a place called Ross where we took another photo of an old bridge. We then headed to the Freycinet National Park where we commenced on 2 hour return walk. This walk took us to a lookout which overlooks Wineglass Bay. We took some pictures from the lookout before starting on the descent. After the walk, we headed to a place called Bicheno where we would stay overnight. In the evening, we went for a meal at the local pub with Megan our friend from the tour. We watched the clouds roll in before heading back to the hostel for a shower and bed.
